Yak Yak was a curatorial project featuring newly commissioned and existing works by artists whose practices address rural contexts as sites for art making and cultural production.
Curated by Fiona Woods (Ireland) and Ian Tully (Australia), the work came from artists and collectives from four continents.
From Kultivator in Sweden, M12 in the US, Centro Rural de Arte in Argentina, Veronica Nicholson in Ireland and from Australians Neil Berecry-Brown, Shaun Mackrell, Michael Shirrefs and Lyn Gallacher.
Trevor Flinn’s work from his Swan Hill region TWIG artist residencies formed a large part of the exhibition, as did a community drumming performance from a TWIG held at Cohuna with musician Dave Houston.
The exhibition opened with a loud and lively community events on 26 October at Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery, with a website to support it.
